Live at World Creation Studio
During my recent live performance(World Creation Studio, 2025, Montreal), I performed live songs from my debut LP album Odesa Melancholia. This album, self-released on cassettes in 2025, is a sonic love letter to the risk-taking, boundary-pushing artists who inhabited the underground scene in Odesa in the 2000s, and a meditation on the sounds that arise when genre is left behind, and only raw expression remains. It draws inspiration from numerous jam sessions that unfolded in apartments, studios and basements, some beginning near the Opera House with saxophone melodies filling the daytime air and ending on the shores of the Black Sea. Others began as simple synthesizer loops or acoustic bell patterns, soon accompanied by saxophone and voice, evolving into spontaneous soundscapes. Memories of these jam sessions transformed into the tracks of Odesa Melancholia—stretchy harmonium tones, esoteric bass lines, and echoes of saxophone, voice, and synthesizers.
